Tips to Having Healthier Hair | My New Hair

Hey Guys!

So back in December I made the decision to cut off my long hair and have it shorter. Even though I love having long hair my main reason was because I wanted something different, I'd seen multiple people on Instagram with long bobs and it looked like something I should try. I've had really short hair before when I was younger and I hated it because I could never grow it long but now that I've had it long and shoulder length I wanted a change and to bring my hair back to its previous healthy state. When I had my long hair because I only had trims every now and then and as I styling and dying the ends regularly the ends started to get brittle and dry so it really wasn't healthy and didn't look great either. So, before going on holiday I made the decision to have it all chopped off, my hair could start again and I could experiment with a new length.

Since having my hair cut obviously some times I've hated it and sometimes I love it but its like that all the time with your hair, one day its working with you and the next it doesn't want to cooperate haha :P

When I was having my hair cut I was talking to my hair dresser about having healthier hair and after giving me some tips I thought I would share them with you guys, so like me you can begin to take steps to look after your hair more effectively :)

Tips To Having Healthier Hair

I've constructed a list of tips for having and maintaining healthier hair and I'll try keeping my hair in a healthier condition too :)

#1 Have your hair trimmed or cut every 6 -8 weeks to get rid of the brittle and dry ends | Even if I don't go to the hair dressers I sometimes just wet my hair and with a little pair of scissors give my hair a little trim. But I don't cut enough off for it to make a big difference as I'm not a hair dresser haha!

#2 Use heat protection when using your hair dryer or other styling tools such as curlers and straighteners | I use the VO5 Heat Protect Spray every time I blow dry my hair and even though you don't need to use that much I do put quite a lot on and let let it sit for 5 minutes so that it soaks in before having any heat on my hair.

#3 Have the heat applicant on a low temperature, so whether its your your hair dryer, straighteners, curlers or any other tool there will always be a lower heat setting. Make sure to use it according to how thick your hair is, don't use excessive heat if you have thin hair as it will increase the damage | On my curlers because I have relatively thin hair I keep it on a medium heat and use the lower setting on my hair dryer. It make take longer to dry my hair but I'd rather it take longer than cause my hair to go excessively dry.

#4 Don't wash your hair everyday as it will strip the oils from your hair and cause it to become extremely dry. Your hair will become brittle and cause dry ends quicker making it harder to keep your hair in a healthy state for longer | I try to wash my hair once every couple of days so that I don't dry out the ends. I used to wash my hair everyday back in secondary school and even though I used conditioner every time it got dry and knotted very quickly. Which is why I had to keep getting more hair cuts when I shouldn't have needed them if I just looked after my hair better!

#5 To refresh your hair use dry shampoo instead of washing your hair everyday | My favourite brand to use it Batiste as it has always worked to make my hair look fresh and clean and makes it smell like cherries haha! By using dry shampoo you can make your hair appear cleaner if it is appearing greasy or dirty and you aren't stripping the oils from your roots, maintaining healthier hair :)

#6 Use conditioner once a week and not every time you wash your hair. If you are washing your hair every couple of days you don't need to use conditioner every time so having a day where you use it like a Sunday will be good for you hair and by keeping it on for around 5 minutes it will provide enough moisture | I used to use conditioner every time I washed my hair but found that it was getting greasier easier so by using it once a week my hair didn't get as greasy or dirty as quickly.

#7 Use serums and hair masks to lock in the moisture in the ends of your hair and encourage shine and softness. By deep moisturising your hair and locking in the nutrients and oils your hair won't go as dry so quickly and split ends won't develop so soon. One factor that can effect your hair's conditions is the climate as well so by using a hair mask when the air is more drying will ensure your hair stays moisturised and won't go statistic and frizzy | I'm really bad at using hair masks and serums as I always forget so I need to get more consistent at setting some time out of my day to apply a hair mask or put a serum on after blow drying my hair.

#8 Don't towel dry your hair as it will cause damage and breakage which leads to dryer and brittle hair. The rubbing motion when towel drying your hair strips the outer layer and makes it thinner and so your hair can't be protected as easily. Therefore, maintaining your hairs health will become harder | I sometimes do forget to not rub my hair dry and dab instead especially when I'm in a rush so this is something I need to consider and follow through with more often :)

After getting used to my new hair I really like it and might keep it at this length until I want a change again. Comment below if you have anymore recommendations on hair products I could use :)

See you soon lovelies!

December Favourites 2016

Hey Guys!

Today I have a favourites post for you guys :) I feel like I haven't done one in so long so I thought I would give you an update on what I've been loving recently! This month there are only a few beauty products that have really stood out to me but for  TV and Music I've been finding so many favourites that it was so hard to just pick a couple. Lets get started!

Garnier Pure Micellar Cleansing Water

I've used so many micellar water products from numerous different brands but this is the only one I've used that doesn't sting my eyes. I don't know if its because its a gentler formula or there aren't as many harsh ingredients but I can use it on my eyes and I don't experienced any stinging or discomfort if I use too much and it all goes in my eye (I should probably use less product if it leaks into my eye haha! It's probably not healthy for my eye sight!) I just love how it literally melts by make up away and I don't need to stand their scrubbing at my face to remove all my make up :)

Bubz Beauty Be....Palette | BH Cosmetics

I got given Bubzbeauty's 'Be.. Palette' by BH Cosmetics as a gift from my boyfriend for Christmas and I have been using it ever since. I got so excited as I've been wanting it for so long! I just love the concept of each shade representing a different feeling, reminding people to be positive and feel good about themselves. The palette is great quality and I like that its not just a nude palette or matte shades its a good mix and I've loved experimenting using different shades together for different looks. I'm a shimmer and glitter lover so 'able' and 'hopeful' are my favourites. What about you guys?

Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone

I've watched the Harry Potter films thousands of times and I've always loved them and even though I got given the Harry Potter collection I never read any of the books.  At first I wasn't really bothered because the films were good enough, but around the time I moved to uni I decided to take the first three books with me and then I could work my way through them gradually when I wasn't doing anything. It take me a while to get into the 'Philosopher's Stone' because I only read every now and then but when I had to keep travelling back home on the train in November and December due to personal circumstances and took some time off uni I started to read a lot more and I had a lot of spare time which gave me a new love for reading! Because I love the films the book was even better :) it included parts that hadn't been explained in the film and it got me excited and was amusing like the films. I finished it when I was travelling back from my winter vacation in Lanzarote and I've now moved on to 'The Chamber of Secrets'. If your a lover of Harry Potter like me and haven't thought about reading them I highly recommend having some time to yourself and delving into the books!

Stitch Mug | Lilo & Stitch

My boyfriend brought my Stitch mug for me when he came up to Newcastle to visit me at uni and wanted to treat me to something for moving in. If you didn't know I'm obsessed with Stitch from the movie 'Lilo & Stitch' and I even have a Stitch onesie and a collection of Stitch soft toys, so when he brought my mug I got a little over excited haha! It's now the the mug I always have my cup of tea in every morning, unless I forget to wash up :p if your looking for one, you can get them in the Disney Store.

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

This drama has got to be my new favourite! I love IU in any drama but in this one she is faultless! Most dramas I watch are based in present day and I haven't watched many Korean dramas that are set in the oldest times but I have a new love for period drama now :) They had so many good actors and appearances like Baek Hyun, Kim Ji-Soo, IU and Nam Joo- Hyuk and just the drama over all was so thrilling! There wasn't one episode that didn't have a lot of action and it didn't take forever to get to the point like some dramas, it gets start to the main story line! The plot is: during a total solar eclipse, a 25-year-old 21st century woman, Go Ha-jin,  is transported back in time to Goryeo Dynasty. She wakes up in the year 941, in the body of Hae Soo and there, she encounters the many royal princes of the ruling Wang family. She initially falls in love with the gentle and warm 8th Prince Wang Wook , and later Wang So, the fearsome 4th Prince who hides his face behind a mask and is given the derogatory label "wolf dog". Meanwhile, rivalry and politics ensue among the princes, in a fight for the throne, as Hae Soo finds herself unwittingly caught between it all. If your someone who likes period dramas or just dramas that are very action pact I recommend Scarlet Heart! I can get bored easily with some shows but there was never a dull moment :) I could watch it over and over and I would still cry haha :p

Gotham | FOX

I started watching Gotham after getting bored one night at uni and just chose it from random on Netflix. I knew it had something to do with Batman and was like the origin story behind Gotham City, so I knew I'd enjoy it and find it interesting. I love it! Every night while on Facetime to my boyfriend we would watch an episode or two together, so within one month we managed to get through two seasons. Netflix doesn't have season 3 so I'm waiting for the whole season to finish airing and then I'll continuing watching it :) Jim and Harvey are my favs and I love how it gives the origin stories to so many of the bad guys from the Batman films, like Penguin, Mr. Freeze and The Riddler! If you love watching the Batman films I recommend watching Gotham, its just as good!

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo

OMG this drama is the cutest! After watching Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo and my heart being torn into a million pieces I wanted something light-hearted and comical to watch so I started watching Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo and geez its so cute and cheesy! I love dramas like these because its hardly ever serious and it just makes you laugh. And what makes it even better is that Nam Joo- Hyuk is the actor for one of the main characters :) what a bae! I just love his comical side and there isn't loads going on so its easy to keep up with. 10/10 best drama of 2016 and 2017!

Human | Rag'n'Bone Man

I bet you aren't surprised with this song as its been in the charts for so long and all over the radio but it actually took a while for me to actually enjoy listening to this song. For a while it was just constantly on and being repeated but then I actually liked listening to it. While I was in Lanzarote on winter vacation I played this every morning when I was getting ready haha :P Lets just say I was a little obsessed!

Playing With Fire | BlackPink

I can not get enough of this song! I have played it on repeat every day since it came out and I still love it! Its the best song to play when I'm on the metro going to university in the morning :) I did love their other singles especially 'Whistle' but this one has to be my favourite. Its just lively and gets me motivated when I need to be productive :)

Forgetting You | Davichi

Ever since watching Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo this song has been my go to! Its a very slow and sad song and for most people this would be the song to listen to when your having a hard time but I listen to this when I'm most happy :) I don't know what it is but I love singing along when I'm listening to it in the morning and I just love the lyrics. Davichi are amazing and I remember every time the song came on in the drama it would tug on my heartstrings. Call me weird but this is my happy song :)

Drip | Meng Jia

Before I was only really into English and Korean music but I've recently started listening to some Chinese pop music. I came across JIA when I was on YouTube and it came up as a suggestion. At first I listened to her single 'Who's That Girl' and loved it because it was very upbeat and lively and then I found her other songs and 'Drip' is another one that I love! It sounds bizarre but I never thought I would be as interested in Chinese music like I am with Korean pop but I'm pleasantly surprised that its another one of my motivator songs to keep me productive, especially when I have a lot of essays to write and need to stay focused!

What is your December favourite?

See you soon lovelies!

Shiseido Full Lash Volume Mascara | Review

Hey Guys!

I while ago I got given the 'Shiseido Full Lash Volume Mascara' and I just put it in my make up basket with everything else and didn't really consider using it because I'm already using and loving 'The Rimmel London: Scandal Eyes Reloaded' but after a while I thought I would go for a change and finally tried out this mascara. I got the colour BK901 - Black Noir which is good because I hardly ever wear brown mascara.

On their website Shiseido claim that their product is: Unstoppable volume and clump resistance.

A dramatic, flexible volume mascara that creates a natural-looking curl with a soft finish. Designed with Shiseido’s original innovative 360 radial brush that deeply grabs lashes at the roots, this innovative, luxurious mascara separates and covers lashes for a stunning fan effect.

Layer-able resilient and smudge resistant formula.
Flexible, voluminous finish with curl that lasts all day.
     Easy removal with warm water.

When I took it out the packaging the bottle didn't look very high quality and wasn't like the bottle from their website, it wasn't curved or tall like the pictures so that was a bit odd so my first impressions wasn't the best but then when I actually used the product I was surprised at the results. I'm used to using quite a big brush that holds quite a lot of product but this brush was much smaller but still held the same amount of product. The brush is great and coated my lashes evenly and didn't clump them together like a lot of mascaras I have used before.

Instead of clumping it defined them and separated the lashes instead of sticking them together. Because of how small my eye lashes are I'm used to having very clumpy application but instead it just lengthens them, adds more definition and volume. Its a very long lasting mascara, especially for a long day at uni so I thought when it came to removing all my make up it would take forever but it came off so easily with a facial wipe, without making me look like a panda haha!

I think the product is very high quality and considering its £22 retail price I'm glad its not drying or a bad formula! I would say the only bad thing I've noticed is that if its raining it can cause some smudging around my under eye but I kind of expected that seeing as it isn't waterproof or anything. Considering what they said on the website I would say they delivered what they said their product would do :)

I would recommend the 'Shiseido Lash Volume Mascara' if your looking for a great quality mascara but it is a bit expensive considering how much product you actually get in the bottle. After I've finishing using it I'll probably go back to my favourite I mentioned before by Rimmel London :)

What is your favourite mascara?

See you soon lovelies!

The items I am reviewing for you today are quite varied and aren't from a particular collection so you will be seeing quite a few different pieces.

Items from Sammydress

When I first received the cardigan from Sammydress I had no idea how to wear it or how the design worked because the initial design looks complicated but once I figured out where the arm holes were it made sense haha! Its a rare design and the seems and folds are in the most bizarre place, its more like the cardigan is to be worn side ways but I really like how the cardigan falls. Because of where you put your arms and where it rests on your shoulders it looks better than you would think. But because of the way it falls it isn't exactly fit for winter, it doesn't close at the front and if its windy you are most likely to get very cold, especially if you live in the North East like me :) Its more of an spring piece. I like how it is different though and isn't like your everyday cardigan. Also, with it being grey it goes with a lot of other coloured pieces like my black and blue jeans and skirts. Its an item that I love having in my wardrobe and I can't wait to wear it more in Spring and Summer! I think because it is a knitted piece it feels so much better quality wise, there are no seems coming loose and no stitches coming undone which is always good!

Sammydress's prices are always really reasonable, you can always find a deal and if your a student like me their clothing is great for you! They are affordable and the quality is what you pay for. Most of the items I've received from Sammydress have all been good quality and once you look at the price you are getting such a reasonably priced item. If you are bored of the every day looking cardigan and want an alternative to your wardrobe the Batwing Cardigan is something you should look in to getting.

I wear this top to a lot of events whether its a meal out with family/friends, going out for a drink or special occasions like Christmas. It is a very comfortable blouse and goes well with both jeans and skirts. Its an item that you could probably wear with anything due to it being white. I love how the arms are lace because its adds something more to the blouse, it doesn't make it simple and basic and breaks the sleeve up. Most off- the- shoulder tops or blouses have the same design all over but I really like the lace patchwork because it makes it look lively and more thought has gone into the outfit choice.

The only complaint I would have is that some of the stitching on the seems around the arms and elastic is starting to fray and so I end up picking some of the stitches and pulling at it, which can be irritating because the more it frays the less quality it looks. But the quality of the rest of the top like the lace arms and the detailing going down the centre of the top is still good. Considering its only some of the stitches fraying the rest of the blouse is great quality! One thing though is that it is very see through, so you do have to make sure that you wear a white bra or bralette and it has to be strapless so that the straps don't show on your shoulders.

Like the cardigan and a majority of other Sammydress products its still a really affordable piece and one thing I love about Sammydress is their packaging is always great! They use multiple different clothing bags to ensure the clothing is delivered safely and there aren't any rips and tears to the packaging.

Sweet Tied Stand Collar Long Sleeve Pleated Black Chiffon Dress For Women

When I first tried the black chiffon dress on I didn't like the dress at all. It's suppose to be an XS because I have quite a small frame and a very small waist but it was really loose fitting around my waist, bum and the arch of my back, it only clung to my shoulders and my chest.  It didn't accentuate my waist like I thought it would. A lot of the dresses I buy are quite tight fitting because it suits my figure better and body-con dresses are the best for my type of frame and my height so I was quite disheartened. Therefore, I just came to the conclusion that the dress wasn't made to fit my figure and I was likely to just put it in the back of my wardrobe and it would hide in the back until I found a use for it or would give it to someone else.

But one of the days at uni we had a house viewing booked and I had nothing to wear because I hadn't done my laundry yet so I wore the black dress with knee high socks, black boots and a big grey overcoat and surprisingly I loved the combination. And after 3 or 4 more times of wearing it out I started to like the loose feeling and look. Because it hung right on my shoulders it didn't hang badly on the rest of my body, it didn't accentuate my hips and torso like I wanted originally but by pairing it with other items I actually really started to like the loose fitting look and I'm a big fan of black dresses, in fact the majority of my wardrobe is black dresses so I grew to love it! I tend to pair it with high knee socks or a pair of black tights and boots. It looks best with an all black outfit :)

Simple Women's Sandals With Platform and Chunky Heel Design

These pair of shoes confused me for a while haha! The strap design of these shoes are slightly different from what I have seen before on my other pair of shoes or the ones I've even seen in shops. Instead of a normal buckle where you fasten the strap across your ankle into the buckle it already has the buckle attached to the strap. So it appears like a normally shoe where you put the strap into the buckle and tighten but you slide the strap into the clasp and not through it so it fits in like a puzzle. Its really hard to describe but in the photo's you will be able to see what I mean. They are incredibly comfortable and the straps don't rub as much as other shoes I've brought, I think its because the material isn't very rough and it doesn't cause friction at the back of my feet so I haven't received any blisters when I've been out wearing them which is always a bonus!

I've also never had nude shoes before, I've always stuck to colour or black. But what is good with these is that they go with everything. I can wear them with any of my dresses and other outfit choices and it doesn't look out of place or odd. If you go out on a night out in them though they can get quite dirty from walking around the city all night haha :) So I do have to clean them every time I've been out in them, but the benefit of the material is that it isn't suede and all the dirt is wiped off easily.

Out of all the items I've received from Sammydress I think these are my favourite :)

Items from Zaful

Crochet Solid Colour Cami Dress

I've always wanted a white dress with details either lace or something similar to patchwork across the bodice. In general I have never had a white dress because I always thought I would get it dirty if I ever went out or I wouldn't be able to pair it with anything but now I actually do have a white dress its easier to go in then any other dress I have. I still don't wear it very often because I'm worried someone will spill a drink on me or something and it will be ruined so I'm very hesitant but I love the fact its so comfortable and all of my shoes go with it :) Other than the fact I'm worried someone will spill something on me like most night outs in Newcastle it is also very cold up here in the North East at the moment so it is way too cold to be wearing a dress but I hope that in the summer I will have the reason to wear it, like some summer parties or something :)

I like that its close to a halter neck so that it goes relatively close to my neck. I like dresses that aren't so low cut as I like to cover my chest a lot of the time, so I love halter neck dresses! It isn't a very figure hugging piece, a lot like the black chiffon dress, and it is quite flowing but I don't mind that. Now that I've found a new love for loose fitting dresses I like the white dress more than I thought I would, and it does fit me really well around my chest and shoulders so it looks better than I originally thought when I received the dress.  The stitching and seems are all very neat and the crochet details don't catch as easily as I thought. I have two cats and a dog and I'm always used to my clothes being snagged or parts being pulled so I was shocked to not have some crotchet being pulled or coming loose - hooray! Another thing I was worried about with a white dress is if I would have to wear white underwear underneath and if it would be really revealing but there is a white under coat, so the dress doesn't become so see through and you can't see my silhouette underneath :) I used to have dresses where you could see everything underneath so I try to look for dresses where you can't see all my underwear haha!

Zaful is a little more expensive than Sammydress, but it depends on what you are looking to buy. A lot of their high priced items are coats and dresses but other items are a little more affordable. Zaful is a lot like New Look and H&M especially with the quality of their clothing. If your a student like me I would say Sammydress is more affordable but Zaful's products are more like special occasion wear for me :)

Large Lapel Irregular Hem Wool Coat

I was so excited to receive this item from Zaful because it was a style of coat I had never had before and I thought I would be able to pair it with so many other items of clothing, but the coat is much bigger than I imagined. I thought the cape like features would be much smaller and just fold over each other, however its quite big. It's suppose to me a small size similar to all my other pieces of clothing but this item I don't think is sized correctly. For me this is a bit of a problem because of how petite I am as it looks too much and like a lot is going on at the front. It looks like I'm clearly wearing something too big and I can hardly wear it with anything.

However, the rest of the coat like the sleeves and around the shoulders fits me perfectly. Its just all the fabric and material in the front that is too much. I haven't worn it a lot due to it not suiting my petite figure or even fitting me, but it might come in handy when it gets much colder up here in the north. It might not fit me with the usual clothes I wear but if I end up wearing layer on layer this winter least I have a coat that I know will go over all my clothing haha!

The price of the jacket was reasonable, however because it came oversized I was quite disappointed. I'd say the trimmings of the coat were good quality so the only fault I really found was the excessive amount of material at the front of the coat. I really dislike it. If the coat actually fit my figure and didn't have so much fabric everywhere I would have no faults with it.

I really liked all of the Sammydress products I received! Other than some problems with stitching fraying and some confusion with how I wear the item I really enjoy wearing all of clothes :) I love the white dress I received from Zaful and I'm happy I finally have a white dress in my wardrobe but I really dislike the black coat, it just does not suit my small frame at all.

The shipping time for all the items was quick and efficient and their customer service have no faults! They are all so friendly and always happy to help at both Sammydress and Zaful if you ever have any problems :)
