Liebster Award

This is very overdue. I didn't even realise I had been nominated until a few days ago, but here I am. I was nominated by the lovely Becky from the blog Lashes and Bows so thank you Becky! http://www.lashesandbows.com If you haven't already go and check out Becky's blog!
I've been looking around and have read some very interesting posts from Liebster Awards so I'm excited to get to answer some fun questions!

When I heard about the Liebster Award I was very excited, it is an amazing way to meet new people and to discover other bloggers. I love meeting new people and getting to know more bloggers from around the world.

Here are the rules for the Liebster Award:

1. You must link back to the person who nominated you.
2. You must answer the 11 questions given by the nominee before you.
3. You pick 11 nominees with under 200 followers to answer your questions.
4. You cannot nominate the person who nominated you.
5. You must tell the nominees that they have been nominated by you.

My answers to Becky's questions:
Who is your fashion icon?
My fashion icon has to be a variety of people. I get my outfit ideas and inspiration from youtubers (such as Weylie, Bubz and clothesencounters), magazines, and lookbooks from other peoples blogs.

What is your favourite beauty website?
There are too many beauty websites to choose from. If I had to choose one it would be boots because its the one website that I always go on whenever I'm on my laptop to roam through all the offers and beauty products.

Your favourite makeup brand?
Rimmel or Maybelline. I always have something Rimmel or Maybelline in my make up bag. When I go to boots or superdrug I always go to the Rimmel or Maybelline section first because I know I like their products and that they are of good quality.
What do you enjoy most about blogging?
Being able to write about anything I want and having my own space. Having my blog means I can write my own opinions and my own views on anything that interests me whether its beauty, travelling or just a rant. Furthermore, I love meeting new people and being able to connect to people from all over the world who have the same views and interests as me. Additionally, when you get that enlightening comment or email from someone who likes reading your blog it really shows what you write has an affect on people and people enjoy what you do and understand how much effort you put in.
Where is your favourite place in the world to have visited?
My favourite place I have visited is Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. I've been going 15 years running now and I love it every time I go, I know the island like the back of my hand, we have met so many amazing people who live over there and made many friends. Every time I go I always find something new to see or do. My parents have even considered moving out there, we always find ourselves looking at villas but now isn't the best time to be moving abroad.
Even though I love going to Lanzarote every year I would love to visit other places around the world such as America, Italy etc. But especially South Korea, I'm so interested in the culture, food and definitely Seoul. My penpal is from South Korea so I can't wait to go over there.
What is your favourite hobby(aside from blogging?)
Besides from blogging another one of my hobbies is photography. Ever since I got my bridge camera last year I have loved going out on walks and taking photos. I'm hoping over time my photography skills will improve!
What is your dream career?
I don't really have a certain career that I'm desperate to have. However, I do know it involves business. Whether it's PR, my own business or working for a large organisation. I love learning new languages which helps with business especially international businesses.
What is your favourite thing about yourself?
I always find these questions difficult because it always makes me think "but there isn't anything good about me" but recently I've been trying to think more positively and to become more positive I believe you should find something positive about yourself. Therefore, my favourite things about my self are my nails. I love the natural shape of my nails and they are strong so they don't break easily. I love painting my nails aswell!

Your biggest fear?
Tight spaces! I had an space like a lift or tunnel.
When I was younger I would refuse to go in the lift because I was scared that I'd get trapped and it was too small. I even hate going through tight tunnels in the car because I feel I'd get trapped and wouldn't be able to get out. I feel that another fear of mine is being trapped in a situation I don't want to be in.
What is your favourite piece of make up that you cannot live without?
I would have to say mascara. Whenever I wear mascara my eyes instantly brighten up and make me look more awake. Due to the dark circles my eyes look very dull so when I put mascara on it really helps me look alive.

If you could meet anybody, dead or alive who would it be?
That is a hard question as there are so many people I would love to meet, but there are two people who I have wanted to meet for so long. I would love to meet YouTuber Weylie Hoang and Youtuber Bubz. They are my favourite YouTubers and I love their channels so much! They are both my role models and are such inspirational people. Bubz and Weylie have done so much for many people and have done amazing things, so to meet someone like them would make my day.

My nominees: (from bloglovin)

My Questions:

  1. Favourite piece of clothing? Why?
  2. BB Cream or Foundation?
  3. If you were stranded on a desert island what beauty products would you take?
  4. What do you do when your not blogging?
  5. Someone you want to meet?
  6. Favourite thing about your blog (feature, post, photos etc)
  7. Best moment of your life so far?
  8. Favourite fashion website?
  9. How you get inspiration for your posts?
  10. Who/what inspired you to create your blog?
  11. If you had to choose what you could wear for the rest of your life what would it be?

See you soon!

My Experience With Braces

No More Braces! Time for Retainers

My experience, advice and tips

I first got my braces on the 21st Febuary 2011, and before that I had to have twin blocks which were the most annoying, aggravating pieces of plastic ever!

Getting them on:

Before having my braces on I had to have several x-rays taken and oh my it hurt. The plastic that they put in my mouth pushed into my gums and was unbelievably irritating. Then I had to have photos taken of the position of my teeth so they had to pull my mouth back with these plastic scoop things while the assistant took photos of my teeth. After it was time to get my braces fitted.

I thought getting my braces would hurt more because you always hear stories of painful experiences but mine was fine. That night and for a couple of days after having them put on I did experience some aches and pains and the wires rubbed against my cheeks. But after a few days my teeth adjusted and it stopped rubbing my cheeks as the wires moved.

While having my braces on, one side of my mouth worked faster than the other so when it came to the last couple of months I had to keep waiting for a gap on my left side and my right side was already perfectly straight so it was frustrating.

There were so many foods I weren't allowed to eat such as apples, toffees, corn on the cob, chewing gum and fizzy drinks. But I always drank fizzy drinks and had sweets and I had no problems I just made sure I drank the fizzy drinks with a straw so that it didn't come into a lot of contact with my teeth. One food that I was allowed to eat but couldn't was steak. Because my teeth became sensitive after having my braces put on I found it really difficult to chew steak and sometimes I couldn't eat crisps because my teeth were so sensitive.

 Getting them off:

When I got them off I was in and out like a flash. I was only in their for 20 minutes at the most. Having them removed wasn't painful but a weird experience. He took off the elastics and then got out this scary equipment that looked like pliers, he then started like clamping the brackets but it wasn't painful. It made a cracking noise and I was afraid that he was breaking my teeth. Once they were removed they polished my teeth and it was such a weird sensation.

I think the bad part of getting my braces off was having to have the cast for my retainers taking. The bottom cast was fine and didn't make me gag at all but when it came to the top it was so disgusting. I wanted to cough put didn't want to gag so had to sit there for ages concentrating on not to cough

When everything was done my teeth felt so smooth and my mouth felt so big. I kept smiling like a cheshire cat and was so happy with the results. Having my braces for 3 years it was worth it even though it was painful at times and annoying especially when coming to eating food but other then that it was worth it by far!

Tips/advice:

  • Don't forget to brush your teeth twice a day and to floss.
  • Don't eat foods that are too hard because it can get stuck in-between the wires and is difficult to get out.
  • Don't be afraid to get braces the results is amazing!
  • When first getting them put on eat soft foods for a few days because your teeth will be sensitive.
  • You may have to take painkillers as it can give you headaches when your teeth are aching.
  • Don't be afraid to smile!

Ashbourne Shrovetide 2014

This past week has been very busy especially on Tuesday and Wednesday as it was Shrovetide. Shrovetide is a tradition where I live which has been a tradition since the 12th Century. Ashbourne Royal Shrovetide Football is a game played on Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday and is played in Ashbourne in Derbyshire. The match is played over an eight hour period and isn't like a normal football match. The goals (Clifton and Sturston) are 3 miles apart and the ball is thrown up from the stone plinth in Ashbourne Shawcroft car park.

The ball is leather and has a cork inner. The ball is thrown into the air and into the 'hug'. The hug is a large group of players, the up'ards and the down'ards and they try to move the ball to their goal by pushing against their rivals. The team you support depends on which side of the Henmore Brooke you were born , if you were born on the south you are a down'ard (I was born on the south so I am a down'ard) and would try to goal the ball at the old Clifton mill and if you were born north of the river you are an up'ard and try to goal the ball at the old Sturston mill.

Spectators come from all over the country and some from other countries come to watch the annual game. Many people follow the ball all day, through fields, the streets of the town and in the river. Local businesses prepare  for the game on the  Monday by boarding their shops and windows with planks of wood to protect them from the 'hug'.

Each team will have the main players in the hug trying to get the ball off one an other while runners will stand a few miles/ yards away ready to get passed the ball and to run to the goal where a scorer will stand.

The ball is thrown up at 2pm and before throwing it up Auld Lang Syne will be sang by players and the crowd, shortly afterwards God Save Our Queen is sang and then the ball is thrown up. If it is goaled before 5pm then another ball may be thrown up if it isn't goaled by 5pm it carries on going until 10pm and that's when the game stops. There will be about four balls 2 for Tuesday and 2 for the Wednesday. They are each painted by local artists and the person who scores the ball gets to keep the ball and because throughout the game the paint gets worn off it gets re-painted. The reason we have four is if the ball gets thrown up again before 5pm the 2nd one will get thrown up so each scorer will get a ball. There are a few rules such as: Don't trespass on other peoples properties, no going in church yards, memorials gardens or building sites, The ball must not be hidden (it has in the past), must not be transported by a vehicle,  the ball is goaled when it is tapped three times onto one of the stone plinths at the goal.
